Fairfield destinations most popular for Taste Cultural Food Tours

IT’S a secret residents have been in on for some time, but now the rest of Sydney is catching on — Fairfield has some of the best international food in Sydney.

Taste Cultural Food Tours manager Lesley Unsworth said the tours through Fairfield have become the organisation’s most sought after.

“Certainly in the food world there is the perception that there is a lot going on in the Fairfield local government area,” she said.

“It’s where you come to get authentic cultural food.”

Taste Cultural Food Tours operates eight separate tours through the area, with the four from Fairfield proving some of their most popular.

“We’ve got the Global Explorer, Babylonian Delights, the South American tour and Little Laos through Fairfield itself,” Ms Unsworth said.

“Then we’ve got Food, Faith Feast in Bonnyrigg and Ultramodern Asian in Canley Heights.”

Two new tours on the Taste Cultural Food Tours register are through Cabramatta, the more general Cabramatta Delights and Vegetarian Delights.

“When we started to look into the vegetarian delights tour, we knew we would have something going, but in reality, there’s more than a tour’s worth, including a range of places that wouldn’t necessarily identify as vegetarian,’’ she said.

Until July this year, Taste Cultural Food Tours was operated by the Benevolent Society, but is now its own entity.

“I think it was the right move for Taste,” Ms Unsworth said.

“We are registered as a not for profit, so all the money from sales and contracts goes right back into the community.”

Taste Cultural Food Tours operates as a social enterprise, employing local guides and promoting local food businesses through themed tours.

WHAT: Local guides take participants through a range of local food outlets, offering loads of samples and a sit-down lunch.
