Positive future for the Cambridge Hotel Motel

YOU may not know it from the boarded-up exterior, but there are positive talks going on regarding the future of the Cambridge Hotel Motel.

The long-standing Rockhampton business unexpectedly stopped operating in early June, which left 20 people without a job.

Long strips of corrugated iron have since been used to board up the building's doors and windows.

Rockhampton Regional Mayor Margaret Strelow said while plans for the building's future couldn't yet be revealed, council had been communicating with owner Rick Pisaturo.

"We have been since almost the moment it closed," she said.

"I'm quite hopeful of a good outcome there."

Mr Pisaturo backed this up on Friday when he told the Morning Bulletin "the site will be redeveloped in the future".

The Cambridge Hotel Motel wasn't the only high-profile Rockhampton venue to close this year.

In August, CBD cafe and hotel The Coffee House closed after 16 years.

While in March, Heritage Hotel owner Will Fowles called last drinks on the iconic Beef Capital pub.

At the time, Mr Fowles told The Morning Bulletin the drought, mining downturn and Cyclone Marcia had impacted on the business.

On Friday, Jade Carr, from Ray White Rockhampton City, said the Heritage Hotel was set to be auctioned.

He said a sales campaign would start after repair and renovation works to the venue were finished.
