Wagga Rules Club announces $14m hotel development

Despite several new hotels being built in Wagga Wagga recently, the group behind a new $13.6m development says its venture will be profitable.

The Rules Club has lodged two development applications with Wagga Wagga City Council to build an 82 room hotel and new function centre at its Glenfield Park complex.

General Manager, Jack Jolley, says the project includes a three storey hotel on Fernleigh Road, a conference centre, courtyard, carparks and kitchen.

Mr Jolley says the facility will be the first of its kind in the area and he is confident it will be viable.

We've done an extensive market demand study and we're very confident that this is a great fit for our club. There is not that much accommodation in the southern suburbs of Wagga. That's one of the opportunities that the market demand study showed us, so this development will certainly help alleviate that.

"We can assure everyone we've done every piece of due diligence that we could do," he said.

"We've done an extensive market demand study and we're very confident that this is a great fit for our club.

"There is not that much accommodation in the southern suburbs of Wagga.

Mr Jolley expects the applications to be determined by December, and hopes construction will start next June, to be completed by December 2015.

He says city's south is rapidly developing.

"We are well situated to, as well geographically, to take advantage of all the sporting carnivals that happen at Jubilee Oval as well as the Maher Oval complex," he said.

"And we do expect a lot of people to stay at the hotel who're attending marches at Kapooka.

"Also some other drivers are the university itself, and Wagga Base Hospital is relatively close."
