The Lucky Australian Hotel gets a tradie-oriented makeover with a new bistro

The Lucky Australian Tavern has become the Lucky Australian Hotel with a new bistro and menu, and a more family-oriented atmosphere.

The new bistro was part of a major revamp after managing director Jas Mooney took over.

“It’s such a spectacular venue compared to what it was and what it is now,” Mr Mooney said.

“It really wasn’t a pub or hotel for families, but it is now.

“It’s a really well-kept secret.”

Situated in an industrial area, the hotel’s main customers are tradies on their lunch break, so Mr Mooney has tried to keep that in mind.

“We do the pies fresh, chip sticks but we also have a buffet, and we’re aware that tradies’ time is short,” he said.

“It doesn’t cost the earth to feed a tradie at lunch or a family at dinner.

“It really is a bit of an oasis amongst industrial factories,” Mr Mooney said.

The hotel has followed an emerging open barbecue trend.

Patrons can buy a marinated chicken breast or rump steak for $7 and barbecue it themselves on a barbecue provided in the hotel.

Mr Mooney said he wanted to encourage a more family-friendly environment.

“The was never much of a menu, but we’ve introduced a rustic menu, money conscious and family oriented and tradie oriented ... there’s nothing really over $20.”
