Lima Bay Peruvian restaurant closes six months after opening

Sydney’s restaurants are struggling under the cost-of-living crunch, with many being forced to close due to lack of custom and/or higher operating costs.

The latest to close its doors is Walsh Bay’s Peruvian restaurant, Lima, a sister restaurant to Surry Hills Warike.

Lims opened in July as Folklore, before changing its name and had broadly positive reviews for its unique take on the Chinese and Japanese influence in Peruvian food called Chifa and Nikkei.

Owner Luis Guzman closed the large venue because it became too expensive to run.

“Our continuously increasing operational costs just didn’t make it feasible for us to remain open,” the company noted on social media.

“It is hard times for everyone out there, so if you have a favourite venue, try within your means to support them.”

For those who enjoy Guzman’s visions, the former Operations Manager who moved to Sydney in 2010, will soon open a small venue in Bondi called Lima Bar & Cevicheria.

The new venue will focus on cevicheria style seafood and will soft launch this week.
Guzman is one of the lucky ones to be able to pivot to something else.

Italian restaurant Andiamo Trattoria closed its Abbotsford branch this month, while Japanese all-you-can-eat venue Okami will close six Sydney venues.

A tavola, which traded for 15 years, also collapsed, while Flour Eggs Water Surry Hills and meatball restaurant Palle were two others to close.
