It is denser than its cronut forebear but still has the peelability of a croissant so you can slowly eat it layer by layer or just take a bite.
The origins of the cruffin are a little mysterious but it was San Francisco’s Mr Holmes’ Bakehouse that used the power of social media to make them famous.
The bakery’s Instagram account, which boasts more than 30,000 followers, features mouthwatering pictures of their various cruffin creations, including such varieties as Bourbon and Cocoa Nib, Dutch Apple and Peaches and Cream.

On weekends people have been known to line up outside the popular cafe from 6.45am ready for the first cruffin to be sold at 9.
It’s a bit of a lottery as they only make 100 of the delectable delights so you could very well line up for an hour and go home hungry.
It’s yet to be seen if the addition of the Cruffin will have the same effect at Brewtown Cafe, but it certainly can’t hurt.
Brewtown are selling their three creations - Rocky Road, Orange Blossom and Nutella Crunch - for $6.
