Burgers aren’t just for Instagram

Have you noticed that burgers are getting bigger and bigger, more decadent and more difficult to eat?

We blame Instagram. And we’re here to change it. The time has come for delicious, well-balanced burgers instead of monstrous eating competition style creations.

You see, the huge ‘challenge’ burgers may bring in a particular type of crowd (read: 20-to-30-something blokes chanting ‘EAT IT’ and annoying other customers), but it’s the really well constructed burgers that will keep customers coming back again and again.

So how do you create a burger that will gain a cult-like following (minus the chanting). Here are our 4 tips (and we don’t mind being controversial):

1. Maximum two types of meat

Yep, we’re calling it. Chicken and bacon is acceptable. Beef and bacon, a match made in heaven. We’ll even accept beef burger plus brisket. But when you go for the triple, be aware, you’re slipping into Instagram territory.

2. Pickles

Not the sweet ones. Enough said.

3. Match your bun

Don’t let the bun become an afterthought. Too many delicious burgers have been ruined by buns that fall apart or go soggy. Or worse, the bun is the wrong size for the burger. There is either too much bread and it overwhelms the flavours or the patty is hanging out the side. We have both 4.5 inch and 5inch buns so you can match your patty size – you want the patty to reach the edges of the burger, not to be lost inside like the ones your mum used to make while you were at school.

4. Allow custom orders

When you make your customers feel welcome and un-judged for asking you to take the tomato out, they will like you, and they will return. It’s as simple as that.

5. Nail the sauce

All the most popular burger outlets have a signature sauce, and they protect its recipe with their lives. It’s important that you have the right sauce to balance your burger ingredients (and don’t put in so much it runs down your customer’s arm). Don’t let this be an afterthought either.
