NSW Wine List Awards calls for nominations

Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) is calling for nominations to its NSW Wine List Awards recognising restaurants and hospitality businesses that excel in the promotion of local wines that compliment food featured on their menu.

For the second consecutive year R&CA has partnered with the NSW Wine Industry Association to deliver the NSW Wine List Awards, as part of the 2015 Wine List Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence program.

The aim of the Wine List Awards is to showcase businesses that support local wines and producers through wine list development.

The NSW Wine List Awards will be held at The Imperial Paddington from 2:30pm – 4:00pm on Thursday 29 October, 2015.

R&CA CEO John Hart says he is thrilled to continue the partnership with the NSW Wine Industry Association to once again showcase world renowned NSW wines in local cafes and restaurants.

“It’s all about enhancing the visitor experience by combining local food and wine together.

“We know international visitors crave authentic local culinary experiences – this is a great way to reward those businesses that make it a core component of their operation,” said Mr Hart.

The call for nominations comes after R&CA, the peak national organisation representing the interests of Australia’s 35,000 restaurateurs, caterers and café operators, launched Cellar Reserve to match restaurants with wine makers that may only have limited supply our boutique products for sale.

The Cellar Reserve website at www.cellarreserve.com.au is the first of its kind, which aims to make it simple and cost effective for restaurants across the country to showcase exclusive Australian wines.

R&CA CEO John Hart says the website supports local wineries and the overall positioning of food, wine and tourism.

“It’s about facilitating Australian restaurants with the tools to showcase Australian wine – especially to the overseas traveller.

“The association identified that there was a demand for small stock within the industry and this will help streamline the process between the cellar door to sophisticated wine lists – when a restaurant is searching for a particular wine and only requires a small quantity they can purchase direct from the winery,” said Mr Hart.

The NSW Wine List Awards are judged on a comprehensive list of criteria.

Nominations now close on Friday 25 September and must be made via the R&CA website at www.restaurantcater.asn.au.
