Creditors approve $850,000 deal to save Perth’s Royal Hotel
Creditors of Wellington Pty Ltd, the company behind Perth CBD’s Royal Hotel, have approved an $850,000 rescue deal that will allow the pub to avoid liquidation and continue trading.
The proposal, put forward by the Parker Group, was approved on Thursday morning, WA Today reported.
The Royal Hotel, located on the corner of William and Wellington Streets, was built in 1882.
It is operated by businessman John Parker, whose Parker Group also runs Busselton Pavilion and Ciao Dandy in Karrinyup.
The three businesses were placed under administration last month.
Administrators Jack James and Paula Smith of Rodgers Reidy estimate Wellington Pty Ltd owes about $3m, including $2.4m to the Australian Taxation Office.
In a report filed on 10 September, the administrators said creditors would have received nothing if the company had been liquidated.
Under the approved proposal, creditors are expected to receive $0.22 for every dollar owed.
The report also found “there was a strong indicator” the company had been insolvent from at least January 2024, with about $2.2m in debt potentially incurred after that date.
“We consider there may be a claim against the director for insolvent trading available to a liquidator,” the report stated.
However, the administrators said Parker would likely not have the financial capacity to meet a judgment debt if legal action were successful.
The report said a liquidator could have continued investigating the matter and obtained legal advice about pursuing a claim against Parker.
Busselton Pavilion and Ciao Dandy remain under separate voluntary administration.
