Firefighters tackle cafe blaze in Watsonia
MORE than 20 firefighters have fought a fire at a cafe in Melbourne’s northeast last night.
MFB spokesman Steve Moore said fire crews — including an aerial unit — rushed to Cafe 41 in Watsonia after receiving several calls about a fire in the double-storey building about 10:25pm.
Mr Moore said heavy smoke hampered firefighters as they battled the fire, bringing it under control after 31 minutes.
He said the fire was contained to the cafe’s kitchen, with the rest of the building and neighbouring shops suffering smoke damage.
All occupants were evacuated and there were no injuries reported.
Mr Moore said the cause of the fire was unknown, with investigators expected on scene this morning.
