Fish Face debt could top $600,000

A fortnight after it closed its doors in Double Bay, the scale of debt at Fish Face restaurant is finally emerging.

BRI Ferrier has been appointed to handle the liquidation, and it turns out one of Sydney's finest seafood restaurants is seriously on the nose with creditors.

"We've just been appointed and we're still getting across it. But rough figures indicate around $600,000 owing," a BRI Ferrier spokesman says.

A fixture on the Sydney food scene for 14 years, Fish Face moved to smarter premises in Double Bay from a Darlinghurst hole-in-the-wall in 2013.

Co-owner Sally Hobbs told Good Food the restaurant closed "due to personal circumstances" but refused to discuss its financial position. The picture painted by the liquidator isn't a hopeful one.

"There doesn't appear to be any major assets. A return to unsecured creditors at this stage appears unlikely," he adds.
