Fab Four: wine celebrations

Battle of the Valleys

February 14

Three posses of top winemakers from some of South Australia’s most famous regions — Artisans of Barossa, (Adelaide) Hills Underground and (McLaren) Vale Cru — are gathering in Hahndorf, just outside Adelaide, for a smackdown of wine, music, food and “old school sports day games — with a wine slant, of course”. Battle begins in the garden behind the RockBare and Scott & La Prova cellar doors at 102-104 Main Street at midday and concludes at 6pm. Tickets are $30.

Gambero Rosso Tre Bicchieri

February 26, March 2

The Gambero Rosso Vini d’Italia is a highly respected annual guide to Italian wines; famously, the wines that receive the highest scores each year are awarded tre bicchieri, or three glasses. In an Australian first, Gambero Rosso is showcasing 50 of these tre bicchieri wines from the latest guide at tastings in Melbourne (February 26) and Sydney (March 2); the guide’s editor also will host seminars each day. Tickets to the tasting are $25; the seminar is an extra $25.
