FROM three-hatted restaurants to your local pizza joint, there’s a whole range of eateries included in a new list of the top 100 places to eat in Australia.

Online review site Yelp has released its annual list on Tuesday, which is based on the highest user review ratings for restaurants across the country.

More weight was given to recent reviews, while older reviews had less influence.

“We examined all restaurants and places to eat based on factors such as number of reviews, star ratings and the timing of those reviews,” a spokesman told news.com.au.

“The list represents the opinions of the ... average consumer, most of whom are spending more time [cheaper] restaurants rather than the super fine dining establishments that professional critics prefer.”

Popular Malaysian eatery Mamak, which has two restaurants in Sydney and one in Melbourne, took out the top spot. Melbourne espresso bar Patricia came in at number two, followed by Bourke St Bakery. These casual establishments beat iconic fine dining restaurants Quay (#62), Vue De Monde (#74) and Tetsuya’s (#75).
