Diners flee as fire breaks out in Melbourne fast food restaurant

Patrons enjoying a hamburger at Grill'd in St Kilda were forced to abandon their meals this afternoon after fire broke out in the kitchen.

The blaze started in a deep fryer at 3.45pm, forcing about 20 patrons to flee onto Acland Street.

Four fire trucks attended the incident and firefighters extinguishing the blaze within 15 minutes.

Nobody was injured in the blaze.

Parts of the busy St Kilda strip are still closed to pedestrians and motorists, with Yarra Trams terminating the 96 tram at Luna Park.

The extent of the damage is unknown.
