Gold Coast family resort to open adults-only pool and bar precinct

Paradise Resort Gold Coast will open an adults-only precinct at its Surfers Paradise property before Christmas.

The first stage of the multimillion-dollar Oh Shun Blu development will centre on a 25m pool with built-in spa jets and a swim-up bar serving handcrafted cocktails and poolside refreshments.

The first stage also adds 12 Pool Access Rooms. Guests booked into selected Deluxe Resort Rooms will be able to step directly into the pool and bar area.

A second stage, scheduled for early 2027, will add an indoor tapas and lounge bar to complete the precinct.

General manager David Brook, who joined the resort 16 years ago, said the adults-only space had been part of the long-term plan from the outset, but would not detract from the children's activities, which the resort is best known for.

"The focus on children was there, but we knew we had to keep developing the kids' experience and make family entertainment the heart of the resort," he said.

"At the same time, in the back of my mind was always the goal of creating a dedicated zone where adults could enjoy part of the holiday for themselves."

"Over the past 16 years, a great deal of hard work has gone into building the waterparks, activities, entertainment and facilities that have made Paradise the family resort it is today.

"Oh Shun Blu is the long-held adult part of that vision – a place where parents can step away for a while, enjoy a cocktail by the pool and feel like they are having a holiday of their own."

When Brook arrived, the property already had a Kids Club and a child-focused offering, but had not yet become a dedicated family resort.

Since Dr Jerry Schwartz bought the resort in 2020, management has introduced a broad range of family-focused upgrades. These include a cinema, a full-size games room, a multistorey indoor play area in the lobby for children to use during check-in, a refurbished waterpark, an Adventure Playground and the Planet Chill ice-skating rink.

The resort has also upgraded its child-friendly dining with Jerry's Burgers and Debs Pizza Shack, and has fully refurbished its rooms.
