WIAA forum forges connections

"The forum will be leading-edge, interactive and results driven"

A SPECIAL business forum in Melbourne in October will give women the chance to share ideas, be inspired and network with some of the agricultural industry’s leading movers and shakers.

The inaugural Women in Australian Agribusiness (WIAA) forum to be held at the Melbourne Recital Hall on October 7 is a joint initiative of Emerald Grain and Fairfax Agricultural Media, publisher of FarmOnline.

It follows the announcement of the WIAA 100 earlier this year – a list of 100 influential women in agriculture driving change everywhere from the boardroom to the back paddock.

Emerald Grain managing director John Murray said that the content of the forum had been driven directly by the WIAA 100 themselves.

“For this forum to be successful, we believe the subject matter must be determined by women in agribusiness. This is why we have surveyed all women associated with the WIAA initiative to find out what really matters to them,” Mr Murray said.

“Based on this feedback we have designed a conference that features industry leaders discussing the changing landscape of the agribusiness industry but with a focus on how WIAA can take action to influence important outcomes.

“The forum will be leading-edge, interactive and results driven.”

Fairfax Media general manager of agricultural media Grant Cochrane said organisers wanted attendees to leave the forum with new connections, new ideas and new inspiration to pursue their own projects.

“This is about bringing together some of the amazing women driving change in our communities and industries and introducing them to other amazing women and men with similarly big ideas,” Mr Cochrane said.

Attendees will get a chance to network with members of the 100 as well as meet the 2014 Rural Industries Research and Development Corporation’s Rural Woman of the Year to be announced in September.

More program details will be released in the coming weeks here.
