Cooks Hill restaurant refused licence application

A second Cooks Hill restaurant has had a licence application for serving alcohol without food rejected in as many weeks.

The owner of proposed venue known currently as The Darby restaurant wanted to relaunch the operation as the Darby Bar.

It already has a licence to serve alcohol with meals but had applied to the Independent Liquor and Gaming Authority to be able to offer patrons alcohol drinks without eating a meal.

The venue would include a ground floor cafe dining area, a mezzanine dining area, a wine bar and lounge and a rooftop terrace.

Liquor officials have rejected the application, noting a high crime rate in the area along with a number of other liquor outlets in the vicinity.

It raised concerns about noise, patrons swearing, laughing and littering late at night.

It added that it was not satisfied that the social impact of the venue would not be detrimental.

The rejection comes just weeks after Cook's Hill's Hop factory also had its Primary Service Authorisation application refused.
