Hearing date set for former Junee hotel worker accused of $824,000 fraud
A former employee of a Riverina hotel accused of siphoning off more than $800,000 from the venue over three years will face a hearing in mid-2027, after appearing in court this week.
Brenda Gore, 44, did not attend Wagga Wagga Local Court in person for a mention before Judge Gareth Christofi on Monday, August 24, with her matter instead handled by her legal representative.
Gore has pleaded not guilty to seven charges of theft, relating to funds allegedly taken from the Commercial Hotel in Junee. Represented by Tom Maxton of Legal Aid NSW, she was excused from attending court while a hearing date of August 5 and 6, 2027 was locked in, the paper reported.
Gore was charged in February this year following reports of financial discrepancies at the venue. Strike-force detectives arrested her the following month, after financial audits and further inquiries were carried out.
Investigators allege the fraudulent activity began in January 2023 and continued until February this year, with the total amount allegedly misappropriated reaching $824,000. Gore faces seven counts of dishonestly obtaining a financial advantage by deception.
