Melbourne is not only rated as the world’s most livable city but the nosh is also good with Attica named Australia’s best restaurant.

The Melbourne eatery has taken out this year’s annual Gourmet Traveller award at the Sydney Opera House.

Attica may be deep in the Melbourne suburb of Ripponlea, but it’s Australia’s culinary standard-bearer on the world stage, said Gourmet Traveller chief restaurant critic Pat Nourse.

At Attica, diners are taken on a voyage of deliciousness, said Mr Nourse.

Overall Victoria did well at the awards.

Brae, a restaurant in Birregurra, southwest of Melbourne, was named both New Restaurant of the Year and Regional Restaurant of the Year, while Alla Wolf-Tasker, of Daylesford’s Lake House has been acknowledged with an award for her Outstanding Contribution to Hospitality.

The peer-voted Chef of the Year award went to Martin Benn of Sepia in Sydney.

Brisbane’s Lefty’s Old Time Music Hall took out Bar of the Year.

In Adelaide, the husband-and-wife team Scott Huggins and Emma McCaskill of Magill Estate won Best New Talent.

Perth scores in the Wine List of the Year with a win for Print Hall.

Melbourne was named the world’s most livable city on Tuesday for the fourth year running, beating 139 other cities to top the Economist Intelligence Unit’s Global Liveability Index.

Food may have to be added to that, too.
