The hotel that’s rocketed Rooty Hill on to the world stage
A SYDNEY city hotel has wowed the world and popular Queensland beach holiday spots feature among Australia’s best places to stay.
But a stay at Rooty Hill is the dark horse that has rocketed Sydney’s west into the realm of world-class destinations in the latest list of the world’s top hotels.
The Novotel Sydney Rooty Hill was rated the nation’s third top accommodation option on the annual Expedia Insiders’ Select list of the world’s best hotels, as judged by almost two million verified guest reviews and in-house experts.
The Rooty Hill hotel attracted national attention last year when then-PM Julia Gillard spent a week there in a bid to regain the Labor Party’s heartland.
The top Australian hotel, Sheraton on the Park, was ranked 107 in the world - an improvement on last year’s top-ranking Australian hotel, which came in at number 228.
Expedia’s marketing director for Australia and New Zealand, Louise Crompton, said: “We’re really excited to see eight local Australian hotels, like Sydney’s Sheraton on the Park and Melbourne’s Hilton South Wharf, recognised alongside hundreds of world-class hotels this year.”
The 2014 list features 650 hotels from more than 290,000 bookable properties available on Expedia websites.
Internationally, the Lakehouse Hotel and Resort in California was rated world No.1, followed by Bali’s Blue Karma Resort, in Seminyak.
