Halloween hell: Woman dies after Adelaide CBD hotel fall
A woman in her 20s has died after falling from the Rosemont Hotel in Adelaide’s CBD in the early hours of Sunday, with South Australia Police warning the public not to circulate any footage of the incident.
Emergency services were called to the venue, on the corner of Hindley and Morphett streets, shortly after 4am. Despite urgent care at the scene, the woman died. Police said the circumstances are not believed to be suspicious, and a report will be prepared for the state coroner.
The incident occurred during one of the busiest nights of the year for the city’s venues, as Halloween revellers filled the surrounding precinct. The woman was reportedly out celebrating with friends.
Witnesses told the Advertiser she was attempting to climb a drainpipe on the building when she lost her footing and fell to the pavement.
Josh Hughes, 27, who was having drinks nearby, told the Advertiser he heard the pipe snap and ran to help.
“I just ran straight up to her and put my fingers in between her hands and was like ‘can you squeeze my finger?’” he said. “She did nothing. I just jumped straight on the phone to the ambulance.”
Police believe members of the public may have filmed the fall and have appealed for the footage to stay offline.
“Police are aware that footage of the incident may have been captured by members of the public,” SAPol said in a media statement.
“Police strongly urge people not to share any vision of the incident on social media or by any other means, out of respect for the woman and her family.”
A police cordon remained around the hotel on Sunday morning, with the perimeter taped off and officers at the scene.
