Brisbane’s Victory Hotel to get 51-storey luxury tower

Brisbane City Council has approved a 51-storey luxury hotel tower behind the heritage-listed Victory Hotel in the CBD, with completion targeted ahead of the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Victory Tower will rise on a 924 sqm site behind the historic pub and deliver 284 rooms. Planned facilities include restaurants, a public rooftop bar with city and river views, and a pool on the 40th storey.

Behind the build is Precision Group. Founder and CEO of the group Shaun Bonétt said the approval reflected the company’s long-term confidence in Brisbane and would help address a shortage of hotel rooms before the 2032 Games.

“The critical shortfall of hotel rooms in Brisbane is well documented and the demand for accommodation is accelerating,” he said.

“The Victory Hotel is one of Brisbane’s most recognised hospitality landmarks. Our vision is to honour that history while giving the site a new future bringing together heritage, hotel accommodation, hospitality, wellness and rooftop experiences in a way that contributes to the city well beyond 2032.

“We are excited to have secured approval for a project that will deliver lasting value for Brisbane, creating the accommodation, hospitality, and experiences the city needs as it continues to grow.”

Operator search under way

Precision Group took over operations of the Victory Hotel as part of its active asset management approach, a move that brings venue management and redevelopment planning together. The company is now seeking a hotel operator for the tower, with the construction program to be confirmed once an operator is announced.

“We are already seeing strong interest from respected hotel operators who recognise the strength of the location, the heritage of The Victory Hotel and the opportunity to help shape a new hospitality destination for Brisbane,” Bonétt said.

“Engaging with the right operator early allows us to design the hotel experience with intention, from room configuration and guest amenity through to food and beverage, rooftop activation and brand integration.

“Getting that partnership right matters. It will help ensure Victory Tower is not only successful as a hotel but also contributes meaningfully to the wider CBD precinct.”

Heritage-led design

Architects Bureau Proberts and interior designers S.Shyne developed the tower’s design with heritage architect Ruth Woods, with the aim of honouring the Victory Hotel and its historic site.

Refurbishment and restoration of the pub is already under way. The works will split the hotel into four venues: a sports bar and beer garden, a rooftop garden bar, a steakhouse, and a basement speakeasy-style bar with a gaming room.

Wider Brisbane pipeline

The approval follows the Schrinner Council’s Suburban Pub Stays Strategy, which introduced planning changes to make it easier for pubs across Brisbane to add accommodation ahead of the 2032 Olympics. It also comes one day after Comiskey Group received approval for its $180 million North Lakes town centre, which includes a 144-room, nine-storey, five-star hotel designed as an urban resort.
