Perth's iconic revolving restaurant to close after nearly 50 years
Perth's C Restaurant, the state's only revolving dining venue, will close on January 31, 2027, as owners of St Martin's Tower press ahead with plans to convert the 33-storey building into a hotel.
The fine diner has operated 33 floors above the Perth CBD since 1978, first as Hilite 33 before rebranding as C Restaurant in 2001. Over nearly five decades it has hosted more than two million guests and built a reputation for 360-degree city views paired with award-winning contemporary cuisine.
Co-owner Olivier Letrone, a fourth-generation restaurateur who joined as general manager before becoming co-owner in August 2006, said the closure followed the redevelopment announcement that came as a "shock" to the business. His first concern, he said, was for his 90-strong team.
The Frenchman, who trained in Michelin-starred restaurants, luxury hotels and cruise ships across Europe and the US before arriving in Perth in 1997, said the venue had become synonymous with milestone celebrations, including thousands of wedding proposals over the years.
General manager Ann-Marie Gill, who has worked at C Restaurant for six years, described it as a "privilege" to have been part of the venue's story.
Letrone is encouraging diners to book a final visit before closure, pointing to Melbourne Cup and New Year's Eve as key dates on the remaining calendar.
While he expects the closure to leave a gap in his business interests, he said he hasn't ruled out a new venture, hinting he may look beyond fine dining for what comes next.
