Merivale acquires Sydney’s 3 Weeds pub

Justin Hemmes has dropped $5 million to snap up another iconic Sydney pub.

The Merivale Group has added the 3 Weeds pub in Rozelle to its stable of well know Sydney watering holes which includes The Ivy, Coogee Pavilion and The Newport Arms.

The venue, which first opened in 1881, is renowned for its high end “pub grub” style menu, and at $5 million is a bargain when compared to the prices the hospitality billionaire paid for some of his other acquisitions.

The Newport Arms on the northern beaches set him back a reported $50m, Bondi's Royal Hotel cost $25m, the Alexandria Hotel was snapped up for a reported $10m, Mascot's Tennyson Hotel sold for $37.5m and the Collaroy Hotel for $21m.

The latest acquisition brings his venue count in Sydney to 73, making him Australia’s biggest hospitality player ahead of groups like Bruce Solomon and Matt Moran’s Solotel and the Laundy pub group.
