Winners of the 2018 Eat Drink Design Awards announced

The nation’s most ambitious and aspirational venues have been revealed as the winners of the 2018 Eat Drink Design Awards.

Victoria and South Australia are the regions with the most winning venues this year, cementing their status as hospitality leaders.

"The projects that resonated with the jury were those that demonstrated authenticity, clarity and confidence,” said Cassie Hansen, editor of Artichoke magazine and jury chair.

“We were excited by projects where the designer had successfully told the narrative of the venue through careful selection of materials, colours and forms. The standard keeps getting better and better and my fellow jurors and I agree that Australia is at the forefront of global hospitality design.”

 

The winners are:

 

  • Ishizuka, located in a Melbourne CBD basement, won Best Restaurant Design by Russell & George.

 

  • Bentwood Café in Fitzroy, designed by Ritz & Ghougassian, has claimed this year’s award for Best Cafe Design.

 

  • Adelaide’s Malt & Juniper took home this year’s Best Bar Design by Sans-Arc Studio.

 

  • Brae Restaurant Accommodation by Six Degrees Architects won the new category Best Hotel Design.

 

  • Located in the heart of Victorian wine country, Chandon Australia by Foolscap Studio was the 2018 Best Retail Design winner.

 

  • Taking home this year’s Best Identity Design is Japanese restaurant Shobosho by Crafty Design.

 

  • Canberra’s Pop Inn by Daryl Jackson Alastair Swayn Architects won the award for Best Installation Design.

 

  • Designed by Phillip Schemnitz Architect, Melbourne CBD bar Cookie was the Eat Drink Design Awards’ Hall of Fame winner.
