Perth’s Miss Maud Hotel sold

Perth’s iconic Miss Maud Hotel has been sold to Stockholm Hotel Management.

Miss Maud Swedish Hotel and Restaurant has been going for 45 years, first opening on the corner of Pier and Murray Streets in 1973.

It is currently owned by managing director and namesake Maud Edmiston.

She announced the sale on Monday morning and the hotel's current employees were informed that at the end of February their employment would be transferred from Miss Maud to the company.

Miss Maud had put the hotel up for sale last year.

The arrangement with the Australian-based company came to a tidy price of $10 million.

With the sale of the hotel, the plan was to free up funds to support the expansion of the Miss Maud coffee houses.

The company that acquired it, Stockholm Hotel Management has only been in operation for just under five months. It registered as a business in November last year.

In her statement, Mrs Edmiston said the set-up of the hotel would remain pretty much the same under the new arrangement.

"I'm delighted to say that everything will be the same for customers and staff with nothing changed for customers," she said.

"It will be a seamless transition for customers and staff alike, with Claus Paulus the long-time general manager of more thirty-five years continuing to manage the Miss Maud Hotel and Restaurant and the same friendly faces there to welcome customers.”

Staff meanwhile will continue to work under their current arrangements.

"All staff will work under the same arrangements, conditions and entitlements as when working for Miss Maud," a company spokeswoman told WA Today.

"Miss Maud is very pleased and proud that they had succeeded in maintaining the operation together with all staff of Miss Maud Swedish Restaurant and Hotel while releasing funds for the planned expansion of Miss Maud Pastry Houses."
