Funds to sow seeds of expansion

A South Australian Government grant of about $106,000 will help a potato seed company at Waikerie expand.

The money has been allocated to Solan from the $20 million Riverland Sustainable Futures Fund.

Its director, Ken Morley, says the company supplies one-third of Australia's market for seeds to grow potatoes.

He says it has already started on stage one of the expansion, which involves upgrading the laboratory.

"Doubled from about a 30,000 plant tissue culture lab up to about a 70,000 plant tissue lab," he said.

"We would have been very much struggling if we hadn't got it but we thought that the business that we were doing and the requirement for our position in the industry was so important that we had to continue pushing."
