Darling Square food precinct expands
Darling Square, which is already home to some of Sydney’s most popular eateries like Toby’s Estate Coffee Roasters, 8Bit, Fishbowl, Belles Hot Chicken and Marrickville Pork Roll, is expanding.
Ahead of the April grand opening, five new eateries are coming to the newly formed Steam Mill Lane: a Japanese izakaya, a Greek gyro shop, a sandwich eatery, a matcha cafe and a Sichuan rice house.
With ex-Nobu Tokyo chef Kokubo Yuji at the helm, BangBang, will be serving ramen and curry alongside a Kabukicho-style whisky and craft beer bar. It will also have a soundproof neon-lit karaoke room.
Add to that pork gyros vendor Gryadiko Bexley. The gyros here have ingredients, and all ingredients from meat to dip, are made from scratch and prepared daily. It’s mainly takeaway with a few tables for those wanting to sit down for some dining.
Japanese cafe Matcha-Ya sources its matcha powder from Japan. It is offering green tea brews, and a full matcha menu that includes lattes, fondue, parfait and soft serve. This matcha-mania will be accompanied by savoury dishes, served for lunch and dinner.
Ricefields, a Sichuan rice eatery, has been put together by the team behind Two Sticks, Bun Gallery and Kobe Wagyu Yakiniku.
And finally there’s Surry Hills' The Sandwich Shop, opening its second location. What’s on offer here will be the usual quality sandwiches, all made using organic sourdough, house-made sauces and meats roasted in-store. Diners can also sit-in if they have come for breakfast, salads and coffee.
In other words, there will be 10 eateries in the precinct’s 8000 square metres of new retail space.
And the plan is to create a space for approximately 80 new restaurants, cafes and shops, all perfectly located with Darling Square housing around 2500 CommBank employees, 3000 residents and 1300 students, all so conveniently located near Barangaroo.
