Bar 36 high tech revamp
The new bar at Cairns Reef Hotel Casino has been completely refurbished and has just opened for the public.
Over the coming weeks, the ground floor of Bar 36, the CBD’s latest cocktail lounge and live music hotspot, will be completely revamped as part of a $6.5 million overhaul.
It will come with a giant television screen, an enormous stage and a totally high tech audio-visual system. It will also include an interactive floor showcasing the region’s natural wonders. That will be installed alongside a LED pillar that will form the ground floor’s “centrepiece”.
It’s all been put together to replace the Vertigo Cocktail Bar & Lounge.
Reef Hotel Casino executive marketing manager Carol McFarlane said it was all about expanding the venue’s customer base.
“We are trying to appeal to a wider demographic than before. It has always been a live music venue but we want to extend on that,” Ms McFarlane told the Cairns Post.
“We want to deliver a great entertainment experience for the locals who have been loyal to us for so long and a ‘wow’ factor for the visitors.”
She said the new look premises will be showcased early next year as part of an “entertainment weekend.”
The casino renovations are on the back of the venue recording a record net profit in 2015. Four years ago, it had put its second floor through a $2.5 million refurbishment.
Hotel general manager Wayne Reynolds reiterated that the casino renovations, being undertaken by FKG Group were being done to build its market.
“If you want to maintain a reputation as a market leader it is crucial to reinvest in yourself,” Mr Reynolds told the Cairns Post.
“We are catering for the different tastes held by people who come in off the street. There are a lot of people who walk between here and the Cruise Liner Terminal or Convention Centre.”
