Gold Coast food playground

The Robina Town Centre is about to transform dining on the Gold Coast.

Billed as an Australia first, Robina Town Centre’s newest development, The Kitchens, has created a $160 million urban market place for foodies featuring everything from 40 cafes, bars, restaurants and fresh food retailers to celebrity chefs dropping in and entertainment.

There will be purpose built open kitchens, workshops and masterclasses.

Spread over two levels, it will feature celebrity chef George Calombaris’ first Queensland restaurant, Jimmy Grants alongside eateries from local hospitality luminaries and heavy hitters including the Honeyeater Kitchen from ex-Songbirds chef Trent Scarr, David Hayles’ Betty’s Burgers and James Brady’s Mr Pigs Bakehouse.

It will offer foodies everything from burgers to sushi, from vegan to Thai, from wood-fired pizzas to South American and Greek street food, from traditional teppanyaki to New York style bagels.

“The Kitchens... not only supports and showcases local producers, suppliers, chefs and restaurateurs, but also provides customers with an educational, inspiring and activated space where they can socialise, experience, eat, drink, shop and immerse in incredible food,” curator Daniel West told the Courier Mail.

“The launch of The Kitchens marks another significant milestone in the evolution of Robina Town Centre as we continue to deliver our customers an outstanding shopping, dining and entertainment experience.”

To celebrate the opening, which coincides with the town centre’s 20th anniversary, plans are afoot for a line-up of entertainment over the four day weekend. It will include everything from celebrity chef appearances, to cooking workshops, musical performances, art installations.

There’s even an outdoor cinema with the organisers teaming up with the Gold Coast Film Festival to put on special  Twilight Outdoor Cinema events showcasing films that celebrate people creating, preparing and enjoying food.

Foodies will be able to learn from the best with special appearances and demonstrations from celebrity chef Alistair McLeod, MasterChef Australia 2016 runner-up Matt Sinclair, and Gerard’s Bistro Head Chef Ben Williamson.

There will also be special busking zones to create the atmosphere.
