Awards time for restaurants

It’s the awards season for restaurants with the Australian Hotels Association New South Wales getting ready to announce the finalists in its 2016 Awards for Excellence.

Add to that Sydney’s eatery Quay picking up a gong at the Savour Australia restaurant and catering awards in Sydney on Monday night.

Quay recognised as Australia's best restaurant. Better still, it’s the third year in a row that it’s picked up the award.

All up, NSW restaurants, cafes and caterers dominated the awards. They claimed 12 titles across 37 categories.

But there are more awards ahead.

The Australian Hotels Association New South Wales awards for excellence cover the full range across 42 categories.

These include everything from best burger and best steak through to best chef and industry rising star.

And of course, there are the big awards: hotel of the year, one for city and the other for country NSW.

The awards will be announced at a special gala ceremony in Sydney at The Star on Tuesday November 29.

AHA NSW CEO John Whelan said the Awards for Excellence are about singling out the best venues right across the state.

Our hotels are world-class and that is acknowledged again this year in the high calibre of finalists in the running for the 2016 Awards for Excellence,” Mr Whelan told The Shout.

“To put it simply, the finalists list is a ‘who’s who’ of the hotel industry in NSW – it honours the best in the business, as well as the hard work that goes into running a quality venue each and every day.

“Regional hotels are the heart and soul of their communities and it is great to see so many nominated in this year’s finalists list.

“All venues on the list have been assessed by a team of independent judges over the last few months. I wish all finalists all the best on the night.”
