Adelaide’s finest chefs and restaurants honoured in awards

The 2016 SA Savour Australia Restaurant & Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence has come up with some real winners.

Matt Fitton who runs the kitchen at the new and acclaimed Mt Lofty Vineyard Restaurant picked up the Best Chef award.

That honor comes just three years after he won the Apprentice of the Year title in the same awards.

Blanco Catering Trinity Gardens won Caterer of the Year while Cafe Sia Gawler, Evanston, won in a new category, Café of the Year.

The Best Apprentice Cook award went to Hayley Wilkinson from the Hilton Adelaide won, and Sharon Romeo from Fino Seppeltsfield picked up Best Maitre D’/Manager.

Topiary at Tea Tree Gully. Metro Bakery & Cafe in Mt Barker and Rigoni’s in the city won the Best Breakfast awards.

Chianti (Breakfast), George’s on Waymouth (European Restaurant) and Eldert Hoebee of Plenty Catering (Lifetime Achiever) were inducted into the Restaurant and Catering Hall of Fame.

Restaurant and Catering Australia deputy CEO Sally Neville said the big list was important.

“Serving great food is only one part of the mix — it has to be met with the enthusiasm of its staff for the experience to be memorable,” she said.
