Ryan Squires backs a good beer for the reef

Australia’s most powerful beer, Great Barrier Beer for the reef, has landed one of Australia’s most rated restaurateurs and chefs as its Ambassador.

Founder of social enterprise beer company “The Good Beer Co.” James Grugeon, said he was excited to announce Ryan Squires, award winning Executive Chef and owner of Brisbane’s only three hatted restaurant, Esquire, as a champion for the company and its first good beer that gives back, Great Barrier Beer.

Ryan Squires will be officially launched as Ambassador by Queensland Minister for the Environment and the Great Barrier Reef, Dr Steven Miles MP and former Masterchef contestant Hayden Quinn, at a special “Lunch for the Great Barrier Reef” at Esquire on Friday July 8th.

Mr Squires, a leading Brisbane chef and restauranteur, said he was delighted to stock, serve and support good beer that gives back.

“The Good Beer Co made it a very easy choice to make. It’s an excellent Queensland craft beer and it helps fund a cause very close to my heart, the Australian Marine Conservation Society and their work to protect the Great Barrier Reef,” Mr Squires said.

“I’m very proud to have Great Barrier Beer on the menu at Esquire. I’m always looking for new ways to serve the best to our customers and this good beer is a great compliment to our menu.

“That’s why I will be calling on restaurants, bars, hotels, pubs, bottle shops hospitality venues and companies in Brisbane and across Queensland and Australia to join me in serving and supporting this revolutionary beer.

“I think the Great Barrier Beer is going to be really successful because it gives Australian’s a really easy way to get behind an important local cause while doing something they love - enjoying a quality local beer.

“It’s so simple it’s genius and I’m really excited to be coming on board as an ambassador for The Good Beer Co.”

The Good Beer Co., Australia’s first social enterprise beer company, was founded and launched in Brisbane in November 2015. It exists to brew and sell good craft beer to raise funds for good causes and gives back at least 50 percent of its profits to its charity partners.

Founder, James Grugeon, said The Good Beer Co was honoured to have someone of Ryan’s calibre and his award winning restaurant Esquire on board as champions.

“We knew that Great Barrier Beer was good but when Ryan put it on the menu at Esquire it gave us a confidence boost! Then when I told Ryan we were looking for someone as passionate as we are about linking up good craft beer with a good cause and he asked if he could do more to help. It’s fantastic to have him as our Ambassador” Mr Grugeon said.

“With Ryan’s support it’s our aim to get our good beer that gives back stocked across Australia. We want to give Aussie good beer drinkers the chance to enjoy a cold one for the reef and a range of other good beers that give back too.”

Mr Quinn said he was not just a big fan of the concept of an Aussie social enterprise beer company, but that he is passionate about the cause the Good Beer Co.’s first good beer that gives back, Great Barrier Beer.

"This is such an awesome idea - you're doing good just by picking up and enjoying a good beer,” Mr Quinn said.

“In the case of Great Barrier Beer, the beer is made by a good Queensland craft brewer so you're supporting Aussie famers, producers and brewers as well as looking out for our national icon."
