Facelift for Jerry Schwartz’s Rydges Sydney Central

Rydges Sydney Central is about to put through a complete upgrade.

The refurbishment will also add two new floors of executive rooms and corner suites.

All up, the hotel will get another 38 rooms suites and four additional corner suites.

The new rooms will be in the hotel’s eastern wing, located on levels five and six. They will be right above the hotel swimming pool and around the atrium.

A number of Superior and Deluxe rooms will be converted into Executive rooms.

When the refurbishment is finished, the hotel will have 97 Executive rooms and 14 suites, including 10 balcony rooms.

The pool, spa and sauna are in for an upgrade as well.

The refurbishment of the rooms will include new carpet, paint, lighting, furnishings, 50” LED TVs, artwork and corridors.

The upgrading should be completed by November 2016 which should make the hotel ready for the peak business and conference period due to start in February 2017.

‘Located near Central Station and chic Surrey Hills, the hotel’s designers plan to give the place an “Urban Surry Hills” design for what will be a 309 room hotel.

What that means lounges and chair in vibrant colours and a textured exposed-brick design for the bedhead.

The plan is to use lightweight materials and methods for the refurbishment. That will ensure the upgrade will cause minimal disruption for hotel guests and won’t interfere with the operation of the hotel.

General Manager of the Rydges Sydney Central, Andrew McKenna, said the hotel’s location in the Surry Hills area, along with easy access to the CBD, Moore Park and Sydney Airport made it attractive for visitors.

“The refurbishment really captures the feel and style of the area, and the generous size of the new and existing rooms makes the hotel a perfect base for corporate and leisure travellers and conference groups,” McKenna told Hotel Management.
