Food markets coming to Friday nights in Toowoomba

TOOWOOMBA food lovers, your prayers have been answered.

Our city will soon be host to monthly evening food markets, with the tentative name of Friday Night Bites.

Curbside Gourmet Burger owner Charles Tzannes was inspired by Brisbane's popular Eat Street Markets.

Following the success of Toowoomba's Bites and Brews festival in September, Mr Tzannes said the city was ready for more permanent food markets.

"The number of local people who travel to Eat Street Markets is crazy," he said.

"It's something people are craving at the moment and it seems to be a bit of a novelty.

"Toowoomba is big enough to have a food market and eventually it could be a tourist element for the town."

Street food from all around the world will be available.

People will be able to indulge in savoury snacks, sweet food, desserts and hot and cold drinks will also be on offer.

Once the event gets off the ground the idea is to also have live entertainment and knick knack stalls.

Mr Tzannes plans to kick off Friday Night Bites early next month.

He said he hoped to get more Darling Downs food vendors on board before it launched.

"I've been in touch with a few food vendors and they seem really interested," he said.

"I already have eight on board but ideally I would like some more. It will, of course, grow over time but it's important to have a bit of variety."
