Conde Nast reveals the best hotels and resorts in the world at Readers’ Choice Awards 2015

JUST one Australian hotel has made the annual Conde Nast Traveler list for the top 100 hotels and resorts in the world.

Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island in South Australia was named number 77 on the list with a score of 94.231 out of 100 thanks to its unique location and dining experiences.

“Hovering over the edge of a cliff, the uber luxurious Southern Ocean Lodge is an oasis in the middle of the well-preserved Kangaroo Island — which, as its name suggests, teems with wildlife you won’t find anywhere else,” says Conde Nast Traveler.

“Why Foodies Will Love It: Expect a degustation-style Christmas lunch featuring Berkshire pork and Christmas pudding ice cream. Canapés and sunset cocktails on the terrace are the perfect precursor to the “Christmas Hunt,” cheerful carols and a visit from Santa.”

The luxury publication asked more than 128,000 travellers to take part in their annual Readers’ Choice Awards survey for 2015 submitting ratings and comments to help create their list of favourites. James Baillie, Managing Director of Baillie Lodges (including Southern Ocean Lodge) says the award is an honour.

“This is a great endorsement for Southern Ocean Lodge, particularly coming from a magazine as prestigious as Conde Nast Traveler. The fact these awards are based on readers’ views is especially important — it shows that our guests are having an exceptional experience, which is exactly what we have set out to create,” he says.

“I think the world’s best hotels, resorts and lodges offer much more than style or luxury, they create a complete experience for their guests and allow them to make a connection with their surrounds. That’s what we have always aimed for at Southern Ocean Lodge — to create a uniquely Australian standard of luxury that gives guests a connection with the natural beauty, wildlife and lifestyle of Kangaroo Island.”

Singita Grumeti on the edge of the Serengeti in Tanzania was named number one with a score of 99.745. Second place went to The Lodge & Spa at Brush Creek Ranch in Wyoming, USA and third place was Bushmans Kloof Wilderness Reserve & Wellness Retreat in South Africa.

New Zealand pipped Australia with the Aro Ha Wellness Retreat in Glenorchy on the South Island coming in at number 14 and the Lodge at Kauri Cliffs placed at number 60.
