Police investigate Waterloo pub assault death

A man has died in hospital this morning after he was assaulted at a Waterloo pub yesterday.

Police have been told the man was assaulted at the Grosvenor Hotel on Phillip St at 4pm on Tuesday by an unknown person and then fell to the ground.

The 52-year-old was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where he died about 1.30am on Wednesday.

Hospital staff notified police and Redfern detectives are now investigating the circumstances surrounding the man’s death.

They have established a crime scene at the hotel, which will be examined by specialist forensic officers.

Police are urging anyone who witnessed this incident, or has information about it, to come forward.
