Coach and Horses Hotel Randwick grows up from humble beginnings as corner store

FROM it’s humble beginings as a corner store, the iconic Coach and Horses Hotel, Randwick has evolved into one of the most recognised pubs in Sydney.

The hotel is celebrating its 150th anniversary after gaining its liquor licence in 1864.
The hotel was originally a corner store when Avoca St was know as Frenchman’s Road in 1858.

A year later, it became a post office before becoming the Coach and Horses Hotel five years later.
The hotel retains the old charm and traditional interior of previous eras but has modern-day facilities and events such as live music, raffles and sports broadcasts.

Coach and Horses Hotel licensee Martin Guest described the hotel as a ‘knockabout’ pub which was popular with patrons who prefer the traditional pub surrounding and vibe.
“It’s more of an old-style pub and we still have the old furniture inside, it adds to it,’’ Mr Guest said.
The hotel is giving away a trip to Fiji during 150h celebrations on Saturday.
