BAZARA bar and restaurant is a new dining spot in Maroubra, and it’s just what the locals ordered.

It sits opposite Maroubra beach, next to the Maroubra Seals Club and is open seven days for breakfast, lunch and dinner, serving modern Australian cuisine.

Vinni Dias, formerly of Elmo’s Restaurant in Coogee, is the floor manager and says the new restaurant is the talk of the suburb.

“It felt like Maroubra needed a restaurant like this for families in the area, instead of them having to go out of the suburb to get good food and wine,” he says.

“Since we opened, the locals have been saying this is exactly what Maroubra needed. They want to stay in Maroubra, they don’t want to travel to other suburbs to eat out.”

The menu changes seasonally. For breakfast try the corn fritter with bacon, rocket, avocado and chilli jam for $14.

At dinner, fresh grilled snapper fillet is served with herb salad and chilli lime dressing for $22. Or warm up with slow-roasted lamb shanks with rosemary sauce and garlic mash potato for $26.

“It’s a place for everyone – locals and tourists,” Dias says.

“It’s really exciting for residents, and the location is unbelievable. There is nothing like this in the area.”

The restaurant is BYO while it is waiting for its liquor licence to be approved.

A new restaurant courtyard will open later in the year and will host markets on Saturday and Sunday mornings with retailers selling goods such as jewellery, homewares, toys and cakes.
