Club hit with $15,500 fine for spam

An Australian nightclub has been hit with a massive fine after sending a host of marketing messages without giving recipients the option to unsubscribe.

Melbourne's Brown Alley has received a $15,500 fine after the Australian Communications and Media Authority are thought to have received over 30 complaints from clubbers who had provided their phone numbers when signing up to the venue's mailing list.

It was found that Brown Alley breached the Australian Spam Act by sending 13 separate text messages and failing to include any information on opting out of the service.

After that hefty fine, the club might want to be more careful with how they use their phones in the future.
