Family First MLC cites mother's wisdom on hotel lock-outs

A Family First MLC said the success of hotel lock-outs at Port Lincoln meant other regional areas of South Australia should consider the idea.

Police said there had been a drop in alcohol-related crime since the 1:00am lock-out policy started six months ago.

There was a similar system at Whyalla.

Dennis Hood said Adelaide and other regional centres needed to take note.

"If it was to be rolled out it would have to be at the request of the community. I don't believe in forcing these things onto communities but if there is sufficient will within those other cities then I think, you know, it's definitely worth trialing," he said.

"Safety should be the absolute priority. We should be able to go out at night and enjoy ourselves without something silly happening.

"I remember my mum used to say that nothing good can happen after 1:00am when I was a kid growing up. You know there's a little bit of truth in that."
