Parramatta Road to become rock n roll central

Parramatta Road could become the New Orleans of Sydney, with an inner-west council making moves to transform it from a traffic congested eyesore into a live music hub.

Last night Leichhardt Council adopted a proposal which would allow late night venues to increase trading hours and noise levels.

Mayor Darcy Byrne says the policies of the previous council hampered development and pandered to a small number of residents who had complained about noise levels.

The Annandale Hotel, which has long been a venue for rock bands, was forced into receivership last month with the owners saying they were sent broke after years of fighting noise complaints.

On top of this latest proposal Leichhardt Council has also passed a 'good-neighbour policy' which is intended to reduce legal action against live venues.
