Police investigate death of baby found in Adelaide motel room

Tragedy has struck at an Adelaide motel.

Police are investigating after a baby was found dead in a room at the Tollgate Motel in Adelaide’s foothills, in an incident that prompted a large emergency response at the Glen Osmond accommodation property.

Emergency crews were called to the motel at about 9am on Saturday to conduct a welfare check. The infant had already died by the time they arrived.

Investigators remained on site for at least five hours, focusing their attention on one particular room. Guests staying at the motel were also approached and asked whether they had recently seen a child or baby at the property.

Neighbours reported a significant police presence, with up to seven police vehicles seen in the motel car park during the day.

Few details about the circumstances of the infant’s death have been released so far. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
