New seafood origin labelling requirements come into effect from 1 July, bringing additional menu and information obligations for hospitality venues across Australia.

For restaurants, cafés, pubs, clubs, takeaway venues, hotels and motels servicing food (including room service), and casinos, now is the time to review menus, confirm product origins with suppliers and ensure all required information is accurate and up to date.

Practical steps include:

  1. Confirming seafood origins with suppliers
  2. Reviewing printed and digital menus
  3. Updating menu descriptions where required
  4. Briefing staff on the new requirements

The changes are designed to provide greater transparency for consumers and help them make informed purchasing decisions.

With the deadline fast approaching, a little preparation now could help avoid unnecessary disruption later.

AHD encourages hospitality operators to review their current seafood offerings and ensure they are ready well before 1 July.
