Dining platform First Table touches down in Darwin with 50% off food bills
A restaurant booking platform promising half-price food bills has launched in Darwin, bringing a model already popular in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane to the Top End's dining scene.
First Table connects budget-conscious diners with local restaurants during quieter service periods, offering groups of two to four people 50 per cent off their food bill in exchange for filling tables at the start of service. Diners browse participating venues via the app or website, select a time offered by the restaurant, and book.
Thirteen venues have signed on for the Darwin launch, spanning the CBD, Waterfront, Cullen Bay and beyond — including the Novotel's Esplanade Restaurant and Terrace, Pink Chopstix, Pepper Berry at the Hilton, and The Loose Goose.
For operators, the pitch is straightforward: more covers during off-peak hours.
"We're so excited to be part of First Table's launch in Darwin," Pink Chopstix owner Dorris Lin told the NT News. "It's a brilliant way for us to fill those quieter tables during off-peak times and make sure every seat in the house is being put to good use, and hopefully introducing new diners to Pink Chopstix."
At the Novotel, sales and marketing coordinator May Vuong said the platform aligned with the venue's core purpose.
"There's nothing we enjoy more than seeing people gather around our tables to enjoy great food and company," she told the NT News. "We're delighted to now be able to welcome even more people in for our First Tables from 5.30pm, so they can experience our atmosphere and signature dishes first-hand."
First Table founder Mat Weir said Darwin's distinctive dining culture made it a natural expansion market.
"Darwin has a food scene unlike anywhere else in Australia, and it's a natural fit for a dining discovery platform like First Table," he told the NT News. "From sunset markets to relaxed, open-air dining, Darwin has a unique food scene that's vibrant and social, and we are here to help them fill tables even at the start of service."
Weir said the platform was as much about discovery as discounts.
"There's something special about discovering a new favourite restaurant. First Table gives Darwin diners that experience every night, while supporting the city's incredible eateries."
