Chinese operator snaps up vacant Box Hill hotel for $30.7m
A Chinese hotel operator has moved into Melbourne’s east, snapping up the vacant Trio Hotel in Box Hill for $30.7 million.
The 128-room property — complete with an indoor pool, gym, sauna and steam room — forms part of a larger 517-unit residential project at 845–851 Whitehorse Road, delivered by CBD Development Group with funding from MaxCap.
The hotel also includes a 90-seat restaurant, cocktail bar, plus function and events facilities catering for up to 300 people.
The broader tower has already landed other tenants, with its childcare centre leased last year to Hong Kong-based operator Cosmic Education Group.
While the hotel still needs a fit-out before it can welcome guests, that didn’t deter the buyer, according to Savills’ Benson Zhou, who negotiated the sale alongside Mark Durran and Nick Lower.
“The buyer is a highly experienced hotel owner and operator in China, and the flexibility offered by the hotel was a key driver in this transaction,” Zhou said.
Pomeroy Pacific’s Nick Grear represented the vendor.
