Marina Mirage farewells its waterfront icons as a new chapter begins

Gold Coast diners are about to farewell a big slice of waterfront nostalgia, with several long-running Marina Mirage favourites preparing to plate up their final services as the precinct heads into a major redevelopment.

At the centre of the send-off is Omeros Bros, the Greek-owned seafood institution that’s been part of the local dining fabric for decades. It’s joined by fellow crowd-pleasers Glass and La Luna Dining, as Marina Mirage’s well-known dining strip moves into its next phase.

Omeros Bros has been a fixture on the Broadwater for more than 30 years, building its reputation on Greek hospitality, a strong family seafood tradition, and a menu shaped by Australia’s coastal produce. Over time it became one of the Gold Coast’s most recognisable dining addresses — the kind of place that felt equally suited to a special occasion or an easy long lunch — and its trophy cabinet and loyal customer base reflected that staying power.

For plenty of locals, these venues weren’t just restaurants — they were part of the rhythm of the waterfront. Sunrise breakfasts with the water as a backdrop, long catch-ups that rolled into the afternoon, and sunset dinners with harbour views that did half the mood-setting.

While it’s a goodbye for the Marina Mirage location, Omeros Bros has signalled it may not be a full stop for the brand. The restaurant, known for classic Greek-style seafood and a family-friendly feel, has hinted at plans for a future chapter once the redevelopment dust settles.

The closures are tied to the Makris Group’s sweeping revamp of the Marina Mirage precinct, a project aimed at repositioning the landmark as a luxury destination with fresh hospitality offerings in the lead-up to the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games. Backed by hundreds of millions of dollars in investment, the redevelopment will overhaul existing retail and dining spaces and replace them with what’s being pitched as a world-class waterfront experience.

In the meantime, the news has landed with a mix of excitement and genuine sentiment. For many diners, these restaurants have hosted the moments that sit in the memory bank — first dates, birthdays, anniversaries, family milestones, and the kind of regular catch-ups that quietly turn into tradition.

With doors set to close later this month, patrons are already locking in final bookings to get one last taste of the Marina Mirage era as they’ve known it — familiar faces, classic dishes, and that unmistakable waterfront atmosphere.
