Potts Point favourite Ms G’s to bow out after 15 years

Potts Point favourite Ms G’s is getting ready for its final service, with the Merivale-owned restaurant confirming it will close its doors on December 21 after more than 15 years in the Sydney dining scene.

The lively “Asian fusion” spot – part of Justin Hemmes’ Merivale stable – shared the news with guests via Instagram on Tuesday, signalling the end of an era for the Victoria Street venue.

Opened in 2010 by executive chef Dan Hong and fellow chef Jowett Yu, Ms G’s quickly carved out a name for itself with punchy, playful flavours and a high-energy dining room. Broadsheet once summed it up as a “skilful blend of Chinese, Vietnamese and Korean influences with a hint of Americana”.

In their farewell post, the team confirmed both the closure date and Merivale’s broader growth plans.

“On December 21, after 15 incredible years in Potts Point, Merivale will say goodbye to Ms G’s as we look ahead to an exciting new chapter of growth and innovation, with several new venues and development projects underway,” the restaurant posted on Instagram.

“Our executive chefs are also expanding their portfolios, including Dan Hong with his newly opened Chinese diner, Good Luck Eating House.”

The group also took the chance to reflect on how influential the restaurant has been within the Merivale portfolio.

“Dan Hong and Jowett Yu opened Ms G’s in 2010, serving up bold, no-rules Asian cooking.

“The crazy, flavour-packed venue quickly became a trailblazer for Merivale and set the stage for Mr Wong, which opened in 2012.”

Ms G’s sits within hospitality giant Merivale, led by chief executive and Sydney nightlife figure Justin Hemmes.

While there’s no word yet on what might replace Ms G’s in the Potts Point space, Merivale has flagged “an exciting new chapter” – and regulars have just a short window left to book a final lap around the menu.
