2GB host Mark Levy’s Sylvania restaurant heads into liquidation
Pronto Sylvania, the short-lived Sydney venue launched last year by 2GB host Mark Levy, has ceased trading as its operating company heads into liquidation.
The Italian–Balkan restaurant, located on the Princes Highway in Sylvania, last posted to social media on August 7 advising diners the kitchen would be closed for several days “due to some issues”. “Thank you for your understanding,” the eatery captioned the post. “We’ll see you next week.” The venue does not appear to have reopened since. Its Google listing now shows ‘temporarily closed’, and the most recent customer reviews date back more than a month.
The company behind the venue, Saint George Hospitality, has applied for a Winding Up Order in the NSW Supreme Court, with a hearing listed for Monday, according to court notices. A lawyer for the company said liabilities were largely owed to suppliers and were “in the process of being paid,” and added that a sale process for the business was underway. “It’s not a situation where he’s running away from creditors, he just didn’t have time to focus on the restaurant,” he said.
Pronto Sylvania billed itself as an all-day offer, with a website description beginning, “300 years in the making”. The copy continued: “Join us for a taste of Italy and the Balkans for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, featuring an exquisite selection of dishes. In the mornings, start your day with fresh deli sandwiches, toasties, and aromatic coffees,” and finished with the tagline: “In the heart of Sylvania, where tradition meets taste.”
The venue attracted some profile during its run, with former professional boxer Anthony Mundine among guests featured on its Facebook page.
Levy, who took over 2GB’s Mornings program in December 2024 following Ray Hadley’s retirement announcement the month prior, had previously been a regular fill-in for Hadley and breakfast host Ben Fordham.
