$88M Sydney hotel project blends premium hospitality with historic preservation
Drawing on the movie-based history of the site, Icon Oceania in partnership with Icon Kajima Group, will establish a true lifestyle hotel of scale, in one of Australia’s most tightly held and aspirational hotel markets.
The $88M project will feature two signature restaurants, a rooftop infinity pool and bar, and a stunning level 3 landscaped podium—all wrapped in architectural detail and heritage charm.
Designed by SJB Architects and backed by Icon Oceania, the development blends premium hospitality with historic preservation, retaining the heritage façade from Ground to Level 3. A sculptural feature staircase connects the Ground Floor to Level 4, creating an open and inviting interior flow that complements the hotel’s upscale amenity.
This 228 key property will instantly become one of Sydney’s most desirable lifestyle hotels and changing the CBD accommodation landscape. Guests will be greeted with a 10m high lobby space and high 4m ceilings in the heritage public areas. The room offering in the hotel includes a number of very spacious heritage suites and an Australian first “Vertigo Suite” featuring a see-through glass floor.
The A grade location will see the hotel become a destination of choice, for corporate, leisure and event guests, in the strong performing Sydney market. The hotel is within easy walking distance to the major demand drivers in the city. Supported with in excess of 700sqm of F&B and amenity, the hotels position in the market in the middle of the city will be elevated by several unique room offerings and includes a 300sqm rooftop oasis with an infinity edge pool and bar with views to the city and Darling Harbour.
